Craig Douglas Gephart with his Conklin GTBD-7 string bass and Ergo 5 string upright bassHe may be relatively unknown in the music world, but over the course of more than three decades Craig Douglas Gephart has had the privilege of working with some amazing artists, worship leaders, and bands.  He has toured North America with ministers/recording artists Karen Wheaton, Marvin Matthews, and RayGene Wilson. Craig also accompanies Momentum Awards Female Artist of the Year (2009), songwriter/recording artist, Frances Drost when she is performing with a band, and he has worked, on several occasions, with vocalist/jazz artist/composer, Ruth Naomi Floyd.  This typically quiet, unassuming player from south central Pennsylvania has earned the respect of both musical veterans and musicians half his age for his capable performances, supportiveness, and a commitment to professionalism.  He has been called upon to play an unusually diverse range of musical styles including blues, folk, funk, fusion, jazz, pop, r&b, rap, rock, southern gospel, praise & worship, and urban gospel.  Craig has also proven himself to be a capable vocalist and acoustic guitarist and served for several years as a church worship leader.

Some of the bass players whose work has influenced Craig include Abraham Laboriel, Sr., Wayman Tisdale, Brian Bromberg, etc.  "Melodic", "lyrical", and "soothing" are just a few of the words that have been used to describe Craig's playing and he is ready to weave a tasteful bass solo when needed or capable of locking into a solid, "in the pocket" foundation that will put a smile on many a drummer's face.  But Craig's objective goes beyond being able to provide an ideally suited bass line; his greatest satisfaction comes from being a "complete package" sideman, providing first-rate musical and moral support. "It's my goal to give those I work with some of the best support they will find anywhere; it's about making them feel comfortable with what's going on behind them so they can relax and perform at their best.   I feel I've done my job when they artist I'm accompanying finishes their performance with a smile on their face." says Craig.

Craig's rates are very reasonable.  If you are in need of an experienced bass player, whether on stage or in the studio, please contact Craig via the Contact form on this site.

Craig is also an aspiring photographer and has a variety of photos on my photography web site.   It is his hope that you'll take a moment to see his work and, if you enjoy it, please others!   Also, don't hesitate to buy something from his online store; it helps pay for his craft!  Cool
